    Geographical Area  =  10, 43,396 Hect.
    Gross Cropped Area  = 2,49,640 Hect.                  
    Net Cropped Area  = 1,83,125 Hect.


    Irrigation is the process by which water is brought to land through any of a variety of artificial means to the soil to make up the deficiency of moisture under natural condition for the profitable growth of crops which otherwise could not be assured. Karbi Anglong Districts are Hill Districts(East & West Karbi Anglong) of Assam. The people of these Districts are mainly dependent on cultivation for their livelihood. The economic condition of the people of Karbi Anglong Districts is very poor and hence Irrigation becomes an essential modern practice for the Agriculture development of the Districts. The authorities of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council(KAAC) have given maximum emphasis on Irrigation development.

    Various types of Irrigation schemes are taken under the KAAC such as Flow Irrigation Schemes, Lift Irrigation Schemes, Tank Irrigation Schemes, DTW and STW etc. under the Karbi Anglong Division Irrigation Diphu,Bokajan Division Irrigation Sarihajan and Diphu Mechanical Division Irrigation Bakulia.

    Under the Major/Medium Irrigation Schemes the revised DPR of Amreng Irrigation Scheme has already submitted to the CWC, New Delhi during the financial year 2015-16(March-2016) under AIBP but waiting for its final approval. The Scheme will create a potential of 6800 Hect. Adequate provision for drinking water for the villagers within the command area of the project is kept in the project proposal. Steps are being taken to form Water Users Association but till date no levy  are collected from the users of completed Irrigation Schemes due to poor economic condition of the farmers. It is also decided by the authority of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council not to collect levy from the farmers at present and to maintain the completed Irrigation Schemes from the budget provision under Annual State Plan.
